Ignatius Rowing Saint Ignatius Rowers participated in the SA State Championships last month. 11 of our athletes competed and had results ranging from strong development performances to winning championship events. Lillian Wang and Khyara Brine participated on behalf of our Junior Girls squad. Khyara participated in the Lightweight Double coming second to the current NSW state champion for lightweight women. Lillian performed well in the Under 16 (U16) single and was able to make it to the A final against girls older than she is. Fortunately next season she will still be in U16's whereas most of her competitors will have moved up, giving us a good chance of winning the event a second time. Jack Pontt raced on behalf of our Junior boys in the Under 16 single. He was able to hold a strong performance against older athletes and was able to secure a position in the B final. Coming 3rd for most of the race he unfortunately due to a near capsize and was sent back 3-4 positions however was able to recover well and stayed with the pack. The Senior Boys crew received their new boat on Friday and were able to have their maiden voyage the next day on the first day of the State Championship. Receiving this boat will be a huge step in the right direction for the growth of Ignatius Rowing The Senior Girls crew had an exceptional weekend. The most notable result was from Caitlin Anderson who was able to win the Under 16 Women's Single Championship event. The squad was not far behind her however, Lily Burgess performed exceptionally well in the single where she was able to achieve a podium finish in 4 of her events, coming second to NSW State Champions and National Athletes. Grace Pertl and Caitlin achieved a 5th place finish in their double with the margin on first place being only 9.2 seconds, with the margin between 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th being only 3.65 seconds; the tightest final of the weekend.
