Homepage News/Calendar The Ignatian Newsletter From the Rector Article information Time 20 Nov 2024 As we near the end of the school year, we take a moment to reflect on the many blessings we have received. We are deeply grateful for the ways our students have grown in faith, supported one another, and strengthened their commitment to service. These special moments remind us of the opportunities embraced, the joys shared, and the challenges overcome. This week we celebrated the Graduation Ball and the commissioning of our senior year students. Some Year 11s engaged with Kairos and embarked on the Cambodia Vietnam Immersion. Next week we will gather for the Junior School Thanksgiving Mass, the Year 6 Graduation Mass, and the Middle Years Dismissal Blessing. To our parents and caregivers, thank you for your partnership, generosity, and trust, which are at the heart of all we achieve together. Your involvement—whether through volunteering or attending events, or simply being present—enriches our community and strengthens our mission. Your kindness, encouragement, and outreach to those in need inspire us all. We are blessed by the dedication of our teaching, well-being, co-curricular and faith and service staff, whose care and expertise nurture our students and their families. We appreciate the tireless efforts of those in risk and finances, people and culture, grounds and maintenance, communications and advancement, and other roles, who ensure our school operates smoothly each day. We are grateful for the leadership of the College executive, who serve with a deep commitment to young people, God, the vulnerable, and the environment Our thanks also go to the College Board and its committees for their guidance in advancing our mission. We deeply value the contributions of the Parents and Friends Association, the Old Ignatian Clubs, the Foundation Board, Fidelis Association, and the many donors whose generosity enriches our College community. As Christmas approaches, we hope you find time to rest and rejuvenate. May the birth of Jesus renew your hearts and bless you with peace and joy. Wishing you and your loved ones a happy and blessed Christmas. Fr Peter Hosking SJRector OREMUS (Let us pray) We remember all in our College community. May our prayers comfort those suffering at this time. May God’s blessing be a source of support in their sorrow and loss, and bring courage, patience, and hope. “Ask and you shall receive … knock and the door will be opened unto you.” (Matt 7:7) If you would like someone to be remembered by the College community in prayer (even anonymously), please provide details to the Rector, class or Mentor Teacher, or House Leader. Year 11 Integrated Learning — Art in the Ignatian Tradition Artist: Maria Minucci and Lucinda RobertsThe Soul Inside Artist: Criselda FazziniMy Cousin Massimo and Me “Inspired by “Madonna and Child” by Gracie Morbitzer, this artwork captures the profound bond between Jesus and Mary from the contemporary perspective of my cousin Massimo. The toy lion symbolises Saint Mark the Evangelist expressing the ideas of power, pride, magnificence, nobility and courage. The surrounding foliage represents God’s connection to creation and life, while the loving gaze symbolises the love and connection of family members.” Artist: Liam HollandUntitled “This artwork was inspired by the style of the artist He Qi and his painting Angels and Shepherds. My painting represents my artistic passions through the symbols of Saint Catherine of Bologna, representing myself as a work of God’s art with symbols and techniques used in religious iconography. On the cover of the sketchbook is a copy of one of St Catherine’s drawings of baby Jesus.” Artist: Lily BurgessCarried by love “I was inspired by St Christopher the saint of safe travel, and adventures and St John the saint of love, friendship, and family. My family likes to travel, I do multiple water sports, and I find my friends and family relationships very important. St Christopher is a symbol of protection and guidance for those who embark on journeys, both physical and spiritual. St John was the one disciple present at the foot of the cross during the crucifixion of Jesus, symbolising his loyalty and importance to his friends. I included symbols of a lion and warm colours to recognise my Dutch heritage acting as the sun, looking over me, strong and for many years. All figures have halos around their heads and are positioned on a boat to display my passion for adventure and hobbies. The two simple crayon figures resemble my past Uncle and Opa whilst a more realistic painted style of the younger me is draped over my Uncle’s arm, just as child Christ was draped over St Christopher's arm when being helped across the ocean. The prayer of St Christopher is written in light blue in the background.” Access the Australian Catholics Magazine Online Families are invited to view the latest edition of the Australian Catholics Magazine.
