73 Years of Ignatian Education

Seventy-three years ago, five Jesuits opened our doors to fifty-five students to begin their education in the Ignatian way.

Those five Jesuits had a vision – to support young people to ‘go, set the world alight’ – and this remains our College vision today. It encapsulates so much of what we are about – that education is not for the self, it’s for others. Our hope is to provide your child a platform, along with their gifts and talents, to make the world brighter.

I was chatting with a new staff member who recently joined the College. She said the mission of the College was already abundantly clear to her. Simply, she summarised it as joining an exceptional team of committed staff, who work together each day to ensure every single child is known, loved and affirmed in our school – this has remained unchanged throughout our history.

It is such an honour to work alongside staff who strive to make this a lived reality for your child, each and every day. Our birthday is a poignant reminder of our rich history, that continues to guide our exciting future ahead.

Something that has changed, is the shift towards our proud co-educational context. Over the past 27 years, the College has benefitted enormously from the pioneering and transformative evolution of our identity, that welcomed girls to our community in 1996.

I have had many conversations with staff, parents and students throughout 2024, who are amazed by our unique co-educational culture. Our school is calm, peaceful, tranquil and our beautiful physical settings lend themselves to the perfect learning environments for a thriving co-educational context.

As we put the final touches on our International Women’s Day event coming up on Thursday 7 March, I am proud of the role models in our school, leading a community of strong, intelligent and capable women. Equally, we are enormously proud of our culture of kind and respectful boys, forming into wonderful, confident men.

Observing the exceptional academic standards fostered by our culture of respectful collaboration between girls and boys is truly a privilege. It is evident that the Ignatian atmosphere equips our students for success, enabling them to confidently take their place in any industry or field and set the world alight.
