From the Head of Senior School

As we complete week 2, we hope students and families, and particularly those new to our community at Athelstone, are settling into the 2024 College year. It’s always a joy to assist the new Year 7 students as they embark on the challenge of navigating the Bellarmine Building and reading timetables to find scheduled lessons with their subject teachers.

Our House-based pastoral care structure, now in its third year, is designed to know, love, and affirm students in our care better. We work in partnership together to support our students on their learning journey of becoming men and women for others. The House Gatherings in the coming weeks are an opportunity to reaffirm this. The Mentor Teacher Conversations via MS Teams, which occur at the start of each semester, enable Mentor Teachers to meet families and students in their care and together plan goals for the semester.

At our inaugural Academic Assembly, we heard from the 2023 Dux, Zara Carney. She gave invaluable advice to our students about how to approach the final year and how to find a healthy balance amidst the demands of school life.

The new art, design and technology centre, which will be known as the Andrea Pozzo Centre, is truly taking shape. The building is being enveloped by a white metal screen, which constantly transforms depending on your location, adding great visual interest. We hope to be using the new centre in the latter part of this term.
