New VET Certificate II Cookery and Certificate III Hospitality

In 2024 I’m excited to announce an expanded offering in our internal VET offerings!

Building on the work of Linda De Poi and Dani Kind, and the strength of our fabulous Ignatian Hospitality Integrated Learning course, this new Certificate II in Cookery formalises the qualification to ASQA accreditation, and takes it to the next level with the Certificate III in Hospitality in Semester Two. Students will also be making valuable connections with industry through their placements in kitchens and front of house.

We are pleased to be collaborating with Chef Cole Ellul from the Adelaide Institute of Hospitality as our Cert III Trainer. Cole has worked at great venues such as The Moseley and The Marryatville Hotel. Students are fully kitted out in their brand new uniforms The College has invested in industry quality equipment such as a new stove, knife sets, and cooking equipment to provide a fully functioning kitchen experience. We've sourced our equipment from an Ignatian family business , Globe Importers, who also supply the top restaurants in Adelaide. I'm sure students will enjoy this new curriculum offering, providing hands on skills and a great pathway into future employment either as a career or whilst at university!

Year 10 Work Experience

Year 10s should currently be finalising their Work Experience placements by the end of next week. They began this journey in Term 4 of Year 9 and should be sending off their forms to be filled in by their providers. If students require assistance with finding a placement, they must attend the weekly meetings in the library on Mondays to facilitate this. The College Work Experience dates are June 25, 26 and 27. There will not be classes for Year 10s at this time. If your child is absent during this week they should be negotiating alternate dates. The upcoming April holidays are a great opportunity.

Prior to attending the placement students must complete 5 hours of mandated WHS training. The College will be holding the WHS Induction day on April 9. If students are absent or plan to do their WEX prior to this date they must see me to get the online training booklet.

Many local businesses are more than happy to accommodate our students. This is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their skills in communication, self-management, social management and social awareness. In addition, this is a great way for young people to gain valuable ‘runs on the board’ to put on their resume. The actual placement does not have to be a direct match with a future career aspiration for valuable learning to occur! For many, the best learning will be working out transport, communicating with adults and the actual organisation of the arrangements.

It is important that forms are submitted as soon as possible to the date of next week to facilitate the risk assessments, WWCC and other relevant requirements.

For information on Work Experience please go to the Workplace learning page on career tools. https://www.ignatiuscareers.com.au/

There is all the relevant information as well as the current form under Required Documents.

Year 11 and 12 Work Experience

Many students choose to complete extra Work Experience whilst in Years 11 and 12. In fact, if your son/daughter is planning careers in Medicine, Dentistry, Vet Bioscience it is crucial that they do so. For these students the process is the same as in Year 10. They must also complete a 1 hour WHS ‘refresher’. This can be found on Career Tools, or see me as soon as possible. Please attach the certificate from this refresher to your form.
