SAPSASA Football

The SAPSASA State Carnival Australian Football (boys) was held on Monday 27 May to Wednesday 29 May at Barratt Reserve, West Beach (Kaurna).

3 boys from Saint Ignatius in Year 6 represented East Adelaide in Division 1 of the competition. There were 10 teams in the division, with East Adelaide winning 8 out of 9 games losing only to eventually winners Gawler to finish runners up for the carnival.

Nicholas Eddington was named as co-captain and had an excellent carnival and finished leading goal scorer with 15 goals. Zayden Reaich was dynamic and a consistent livewire up forward whilst Henry McKay played as a utility and was courageous and daring when playing down back. We commend the boys for excelling in school representative football. These three have been key performers for our well-performed Year 5/6 team to date, coached by staff member, Mr Michael Cronin, and supported by College parent, Dan Eddington.

Oakbank State Championships

For the first time in a long time, the Oakbank track was dry and there was even some sunshine during the day. The racing fields were still very large, and the Ignatius runners represented the College superbly. Every runner completed their race distance in excellent time, and it was brilliant to see the runners benefit from their training during the year. It was wonderful to see all runners supporting each other throughout the day. In particular, it was great to watch our dedicated Year 12 runners complete their final race at Oakbank – congratulations to Hugo, Lily, Tahlia and Ella. Special congratulations to Tom Kavanagh who in his final race as an Ignatian at Oakbank, placed second which was an incredible achievement. Well done also to our younger teams who represented the College proudly and confirmed that Cross Country at Ignatius is in good hands for the future.

Public Speaking Success

Saint Ignatius’ College has continued its success in public speaking competitions in 2024. On the 11th of May, eight students competed in the Rostrum Voice of Youth Public Speaking Competition held at Immanuel College. Well done to Christian Iacopetta, Jingyuan Zhang, Lillian Wang, Amelia Graves, Sharon Zhang, Mehar Bains, Aojin Chen and Gabrielle Elias! From this experience, Sharon, Mehar, Aojin and Gabrielle returned on the 25th of May to compete in a semi-final round of exceptional talent. Excitingly, Mehar, Aojin and Gabrielle were promoted to the State Final to be held on the 22nd of June at Old Parliament House.

On the 7th of June, Grace Boys competed in the Junior Legacy Public Speaking Competition at Pulteney Grammar School. As the only Saint Ignatius’ representative this time, she certainly did us proud and spoke with poise, precision and creativity.

We wish Aojin, Mehar and Gabrielle all the best as they prepare to speak from the podium of Old Parliament House in the Rostrum Voice of Youth State Final!

Thank you to all students who attend public speaking. Your courage, creativity and support of others makes this a very special group.
