Reflections on Easter, Innovations, and Adventures

We hope you had a blessed Easter break and are looking forward to the final days of term next week. Easter is a reminder of God’s immense love for us, the power of forgiveness, and the possibility of hope and new beginnings.

The College Fair this Saturday is a great opportunity to connect with friends in the Ignatian community. People enjoy the range of food and drinks, the various stalls, the fun-filled rides, the musical entertainment, and the light and sound show. Thank you to all who have helped this year, especially Emma Marks, Nik Villios, Belinda Seatree, and all the wonderful stall convenors and committee members for all their efforts.

The new Andrea Pozzo Art, Design, and Technology Building will be completed in the coming days, and classes will commence in there next term. This new facility shows our commitment to innovation, with opportunities to engage with the latest technologies. The architects at Architects Ink have crafted a design that optimizes light exposure and panoramic views. The workspaces allow flexibility with clear sight lines. It is named after Andrea Pozzo, a Jesuit from the late 1600s who was renowned for painting, architecture, stage design, and studying art. Pozzo was a master of illusion of depth in his art, and his insights into perspective geometry continue to serve as valuable resources for contemporary artists and architects.

The European Cultural Tour heads off this weekend. We wish the twenty-eight students and four staff a safe and inspiring visit to Germany, France, and Italy.

The Senior School Swimming Carnival was held at Norwood pool today. There were solid performances and great participation in a fairly fun-filled day. Next week the Year 10s participate in Gonzaga Week, which includes a Day of Reflection at Sevenhill, some leadership formation, visits to universities, and WHS and first aid training.

On Tuesday this week, nine Jesuit tertians visited the Senior School. They came from and work in a range of places including the Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Cambodia, South Africa, and England. They have just finished their 30-day retreat at Sevenhill and are heading back to Melbourne for a period before being sent on placements around Australia. After formation and some years of ministry, tertianship is a period of several months for Jesuits to reconnect with their foundational sources, reflect, and plan for their future life and ministries.

OREMUS (Let us pray)

We remember all in our College community. May our prayers comfort those suffering at this time. May God’s blessing be a source of support in their sorrow and loss, and bring courage, patience, and hope.

For those who have died:

  • Greg Olbrich (Class of 1988)

“Ask and you shall receive … knock and the door will be opened unto you.” (Matt 7:7)

If you would like someone to be remembered by the College community in prayer (even anonymously), please provide details to the Rector, class or Mentor Teacher, or House Leader.
