Homepage Community Foundation 2026 Bursary Appeal Transform a Life Through an Ignatian Education This year, Saint Ignatius’ College celebrates 75 years of inspiring young people to go forth and set the world alight. From small beginnings, our College has grown into a vibrant and compassionate community that nurtures academic excellence, develops character, and inspires a lifelong commitment to faith and justice. Each year, the Ignatian Bursary Fund helps ensure that students who would otherwise be unable to access this education are welcomed into our community. Today, we invite you to be part of that endeavour. Your gift to the Ignatian Bursary Fund supports families who connect deeply with our Ignatian way of life. By removing financial barriers, together we can open the door for deserving students who will embrace an Ignatian education in their desire to make a meaningful difference in the world. Ignatian students enrich our College through their gifts, perspectives, and contributions, and go on to make a meaningful difference in the wider world. Besmellah's Story A bursary did more than provide Besmellah with an education. It gave him the opportunity to find his voice and pursue a life of purpose. We are proud to be sharing the story of Old Ignatian Besmellah Rezaee (Class of 2006), a former bursary recipient. His journey from a young refugee, of great potential and aspiration, to a proud Ignatian graduate is a powerful example of what your generosity makes possible. Today, as a lawyer, Besmellah works tirelessly to support refugees and migrants, advocate for human rights, and shape national policy. As Principal Solicitor at Beena Rezaee Legal and Migration, Besmellah leads a team of 25 staff who are committed to ensuring that all have access to legal services whether through pro bono work, legal aid, or private services. Through his charity Baba Mazari Foundation, Besmellah leads initiatives that empower vulnerable communities, provide essential support to those in need, and champion equality and inclusion both locally and globally. In 2025 Besmellah’s humanitarian work was recognised with a 2025 Governor’s Multicultural Award. A bursary did more than provide Besmellah with an education. It gave him the opportunity to find his voice and pursue a life of purpose. His story reminds us that when we invest in one student, we do not just change one life. We empower individuals who go on to contribute to their communities and shape a more just and compassionate world. Besmellah is a powerful example of our College’s vision realised. As we celebrate 75 years of the College, we look not only to our past, but to the future we are shaping together. Today’s students are the leaders, advocates, and change agents of tomorrow. The Bursary Appeal is an opportunity for us all to play a role in shaping a better world. Give Today Besmellah's story reminds us that when we invest in one student, we do not just change one life.
