Students work alongside industry in STEAM collaborations

Nov 01, 2019

Saint Ignatius' College has been fortunate to be working alongside industry one again in 2019. Throughout Term 4, Year 10 science students have been immersed in collaborative STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths) projects.

The “Chemistry of Cosmetics” group were invited to spend a morning with Jan Smith of Janesce Cosmetics, at Claret Ash Farm in Echunga, where they experienced the wisdom of Jan Smith. Students were fortunate to hear her expert scientific advice on cosmetic manufacturing as well as inspirational stories about her journey to success.

The Sports Engineering group have been working with Associate Professor Paul Grimshaw and Simon Thwaites of Adelaide University. Students have tested their ideas/prototypes/products in the engineering labs of the University using sophisticated technology. They have also had the opportunity to interrogate and analyse this data with university staff to reach an outcome.

Amazing work is being done groups in the biofuels and water sustainability projects. This work will culminate in a venture showcase for families later in Term 4.
