The A-Z of People of Faith and Science
This book provides short biographies on 92 people of faith and science. These thinkers show a positive association of Christianity with science.
The book covers thinkers such as Clement and Augustine, the Venerable Bede and Pope Sylvester, Anselm and Aquinas, Roger Bacon and Robert Grosseteste, Bellarmine and Kircher, Teilhard and the Philippine observatory.
The short chapters reveal the scientific interests of Christian religious people, and give a broader and truer record of the Church’s attitude towards science than that which is revealed in the Galileo incident.
Fr Kelly writes of the Galileo dispute in his introduction. He discusses the influence at the time of Aristotlean philosophy and the heliocentric theory and the 1992 apology by Pope John Paul II.
The sources of the material have been gathered over the many years of Fr Kelly’s teaching and preaching.
