Year 4 Day of Reflection

On Wednesday 28 October, the Year Four students travelled to the Senior School to partake in a Day of Reflection. This day was filled with many opportunities for prayer, reflection, connection and activities to support each child in their Ignatian Formation. As many of the Year Fours will soon celebrate the Holy Sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion, this day also provided rich opportunities to prepare the students for this journey.

The day commenced with opening prayers and meditation in the Saint Ignatius’ Chapel led by Fr Kieran Gill SJ and our REC Ms Beltrame. For the first activity, children investigated and inquired into the many symbols and sacred elements around them in the church. They were invited to smell the chrism oil that will anoint them on their Confirmation and have a closer look at other significant items used in Masses.

The children then spent some time reflecting on the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit and how they use them to enrich their lives and the lives of others. Once moving outside into the beautiful grounds, they partnered up with a friend and thought deeply about how they see and recognise the gifts and talents they possess. This activity was centred around strengthening an outwardly view and strengthening connections based on the premise, ‘the God in me, sees the God in you.’

An old scholar, Jemma Valente, graciously gave her time to share her journey in preparing for and partaking in the Sacramental program whilst in Year 12 in 2019.  Many students were inspired by her finding of faith and commitment to spiritual growth. After lunch, children were able to consolidate their day in an artistic manner before concluding the day with final prayers, meditation and reflection.

The children expressed great enjoyment for this wonderful formation experience and loved the opportunity to spend time at the Senior School.
