2020 Term 1 Week 2

Ignatian Ethos

Welcome to the 2020 school year. I would especially like to welcome new families to the College community. May it be the beginning of a wonderful journey for you.

Many of you are very familiar with the ethos of Saint Ignatius’ College and others will be just beginning to discover its characteristics. Our ethos underpins all we do at the College. It emanates from St Ignatius of Loyola and how he viewed God working in the world.

It is easy to miss God in the frantic pace of each day. St Ignatius realised this, so it is an essential part of Ignatian Spirituality to stop and reflect. We do this at the College through the prayer of the Examen which I will explain more about in upcoming newsletters. Holidays are a wonderful opportunity to slow down and take a little longer to ponder on issues.

So when I returned to school and the days began to fill up again with so much busyness I was struck by a short 4 minute video which is on the world-wide Jesuit education website https://www.educatemagis.org/. This video is part of a discussion on “to accompany young people in the creation of a hope-filled future.” It is titled “Cultivating Depth” and discusses the ‘Globalisation of Superficiality’. I believe this is a concern for all of us, not just our young people.

Here is a link to the clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9FkDzW0xus and I would encourage you to find the 4 minutes to view it.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any queries you may have in regard to our Ignatian Ethos.
