From the Head of Senior School
I was fortunate to recently attend an Ignatian Spirituality and Ethos conference at the Sevenhill College Retreat Centre. The conference known as ‘Magis Three’ is the third in a series, which in the form of a silent retreat, provided staff in attendance with a deeper experience of our unique Ignatian spirituality. The theme of the retreat was The Journey, The Way, The Truth, and The Life, which offered time to reflect on our own spiritual journey and vocation in personal life.
I would highly recommend the Walking Tour of Historic Sevenhill in the Clare Valley to everyone as a great way to experience the initial home of the Jesuits in Australia, established in 1851. The tour includes the beautiful St Aloysius’ Church and of course the Sevenhill Cellars, which is the oldest winery in the valley!
At this week’s Ash Wednesday liturgies, the students were reminded by Father Hosking that Lent is a time to recalibrate, and remember that we are part of this wonder of creation, that we will live our lives through it, we change and grow, and during Lent we are asked in a very special way to reflect on our relationship with God, with other people and also with ourselves. He asked us to consider the following questions during Lent: What do I hope to do during Lent this year? How can I make a difference to those around me this Lent? What can I do for those less fortunate than me?
Please take note of some upcoming events at the Senior School during week 7:
Adelaide Cup Holiday – Monday 11 March
Year Eight Camp at Adare, Victor Harbor – Wednesday 13 March to Friday 15 March
National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence – Friday 15 March. The theme for the 2019 NDA is Bullying. No Way! Take action every day.
Lord, I pray for the humility that puts me in tune with your heart of mercy.
