2019 Term 1 Week 4

2019 Term 1 Week 4

From the Head of Senior School

At our first Senior School Assembly of the year, our 2018 Dux of the College, Sebastian Ricci, addressed the students and shared some advice that he learned during his 13 years at Saint Ignatius. His advice was to:

  • set goals for yourself
  • build relationships with your teachers
  • have fun.

Seb particularly reminded our senior year students that the senior years of schooling can be difficult for some people, and so always check in on your mates to make sure they’re ok. His entertaining speech concluded with a Latin quote – ‘ex nihilo, nihil fit’, meaning from nothing, comes nothing, and his final words of advice … The College provides a platform for you to achieve academic greatness, but your success is only determined by your motivation to do the work required of you. We can all do great things; we just have to be willing to put in the effort.

I trust that parents have enjoyed attending the year level information evenings, and my sincere thanks go to the Year Level Coordinators for their planning and organisation of these events. I would also like to thank those parents who took the opportunity to introduce themselves, and we hope that our College is a place where students feel cared for by teachers and staff, so they develop a care for others that helps them grow in confidence and goodness.

We are blessed with great facilities to support our ever-growing co-curricular program for students, and at the weekend, it was wonderful to see all the students and coaches representing the College with pride.

Please take note of some upcoming events at the Senior School during week 5:

  • Senior School Tours on Tuesday 26 February, Flynn Theatre 9:30am.
  • Catholic Coed Swimming Carnival, North Adelaide Aquatic Centre on Tuesday 26 February, 6:30pm.
  • Bali and Java Tour Information Night, Tuesday 26 February, Bellarmine Room at 7pm.
  • Year 12 PE Kayaking practical, Garden Island, Wednesday 27 February to Friday 1 March.

Make me free Lord. Open my heart for surprises.
