From the Head of Senior School
At this week’s Senior School Assembly, Father Hosking reminded us that next week is Refugee Week, and he shared some of his experiences working in refugee camps. He described the struggle of families living amidst senseless violence, fleeing oppression, struggling to find protection, and rebuilding their lives.
He went on to say, “The rhetoric about protecting our borders is just one piece in the complex challenge that confronts humanity. Our compassion antennae can be jammed by manipulative language and it interferes with the magnetic point of the moral compass. Compassion invites us to value everyone’s story. How we welcome those who flee their lands will confirm our mediocrity or enhance our humanity. We want you to grow in an excellence of humanity, to people of the Magis –fully alive to God and always engaged with the common good. We want your formation here to develop your intellect, stir your desires, and call you to act justly.”
We pray for our students in Years 10 and 11 as they begin their end-of-Semester One examinations. Best wishes to you all!
