From the Head of Junior School
At Saint Ignatius, many parents comment that we are gifted with a strong sense of community that feels like family. This week we were blessed to acknowledge and celebrate our broader Ignatian family on our Grandparents and Special Friends Day. In welcoming over 600 guests before school on a cool morning, we were warmed with cups of tea and coffee and the presence of so many family members who were able to join us for the occasion.
It was lovely seeing children share their learning in the classrooms and later celebrate their gift of love through our liturgy, while filling the entire church of Saint Ignatius. In their wisdom, some of the Reception children were able to share their special thoughts of their own grandparents in that: some grandmas give you lots of advice (Oscar Underdown), some grandpas put extra money in your piggy bank (Sylvie Fallo), some grandpas can wiggle their ears! (Eva Walkley) and It’s great to have a grandma and grandpa like mine, they are wonderful! (Rihanna Rabbah).
Thank you to all the Parents and Friends who generously gave of their time in helping us to welcome so many parents, grandparents, and special friends. We could not have provided without your support. A special thankyou goes to Tom Uren and his grandmother Judy who gave such a beautiful tribute of their loving relationship and account of Tom’s own father Steve as a student at Saint Ignatius’ College (now teacher at the Senior School).
It is true; grandparents shower our children with many gifts, but there is no greater gift they can give than their love and their presence, which brought smiles to so many of the children this day and always.
