2020 Term 1 Week 7

Co-curricular - Aerobics

Aerobics 2020

This year there are 60 girls involved in Aerobics at the Senior School. It is a co-curricular activity which requires an enormous commitment, with trainings scheduled three times a week (two early morning starts and Friday afternoons).

The year begins with fitness and trials, so that we can best determine the appropriate levels and teams. This year we will be entering nine Aerobics teams into the FISAF (Federation of International Sport Aerobics and Fitness) competition. It is an international sport aerobics competition with over 30 member countries around the world. FISAF Australia is the Australian Association responsible for the development, promotion and regulation of the sport aerobics competition in Australia, and competition opportunities are available for beginners through to an advanced level. The College will register teams in School Stream; this stream is designed exclusively for schools to encourage and support students to compete in both State and National Championship events.

Thankfully, we have many old scholars who have offered to come back and coach a team; their skills and enthusiasm are appreciated by all the girls and are the core of the College’s success in this sport. Miss Laura Nilsen, Old Scholar and skilled aerobics participant, continues in the position of Head Coach of the College’s Aerobics Squad this year.

The senior girls vote each year for Aerobics Captains. This year the girls have voted for the following two Captains:

Captain of Aerobics - Zara Toffoli
Vice-Captain of Aerobics - Olivia Kube

Both girls have been involved in this sport for many years and their passion and commitment are admired by their peers.

The FISAF Aerobic State Competition begins with the Super Series Finals to be held at the Golden Grove Performing Arts Centre on Sunday, 30 May. We invite you to pencil this date in your calendar and come along and experience the strength and vibrancy of this popular sport.
