2019 Term 4 Week 7

2019 Term 4 Week 7
From the Principal
In my role at the College, I am fortunate to participate in a wide range of activities that provide me with some unique insights into our community. Occasionally there is an extraordinary juxtaposition of events, which causes me to reflect even more deeply on just how fortunate and blessed Saint Ignatius’ College is. I had an experience of this at the start of this week with the Valete celebrations... read more
From the Rector
We speak of this being a place of community of students, families, and staff. This was evident in our Valete celebration last weekend. Many of the speeches reflected on the value system of personal integrity and social conscience that we associate with a Jesuit education. We want our students to go forth and to make the world fairer, better, more honest, more just, more decent, more humanely uplifting,... read more
From the Head of Senior School
This week our Year 10 and 11 students completed their examinations. Several Year 11 students will begin immersions to Cambodia and Vietnam, and to India, this weekend. On Wednesday night we had the Mass of Commissioning, where the pilgrims, staff, and families gathered to mark the beginning of a special journey: a journey with a sacred purpose and a special... read more
Ignatian Ethos
Last weekend we celebrated with the Year 12 cohort as they departed the College to “go and set the world alight”. Ignatius often signed off his letters to his fellow Jesuits with “ite, inflammate omnia” – “go, set the world on fire”. Possibly to deter the defence of anyone suffering from pyromania, fire has become alight! It is heartening to ponder... read more

More recently, I have made reference to the debates surrounding the relevance of NAPLAN and ATAR scores, in addition to ongoing conversations nationally and internationally about the need to educate our students in a way that prepares them for their futures, rather... read more
