Last Wednesday all Year 9 House Representatives participated in Y-Lead’s Altitude Day. Throughout this non-stop day of fun activities and interesting guest speakers, the advice we were given will remain with us until the end of our schooling. Altitude Day truly broadened our perspectives on the diverse ways we can become leaders in our communities. It shone a new light on what leadership really is and what it may mean for us as we become more conscious of our place in society. We were given the chance to have a look at our own traits and utilise this to begin planning our path for the future. Through this, Y-Lead’s Y-Team brought about the realisation that each path is varying and unpredictable. The one piece of information that I believe will be invaluable to us throughout our education is that, “failure is success in progresss”. Altitude Day provided us with valuable perspectives from guest speakers of various backgrounds and areas. For example, our third guest speaker, Dr. Trudy Lin, told us about what matters to her, and that is equal rights for all, regardless of all mental and physical disabilities that we may have. She taught us to remember our ‘why’ and this is what will drive us to make a difference.
