On Thursday November 3rd a group of Year 7 English Extension students visited Immanuel College for the Once Upon a…Festival. The students were treated to sessions from prominent Australian authors and poets who write predominantly for teenagers. They listened to presentations about how novels are written and published and participated in workshops about slam poetry and story planning. They also participated in sessions about comedy writing and fantasy writing. The students were encouraged to try their hand at the different ideas presented in interactive workshops. The festival provided the students with a unique opportunity to hear authors share their journeys on the road to having their work published and beyond, providing them with insights that may be useful should they wish to follow this path themselves in the future. The excursion was also a lot of fun and we returned with many ideas and we also brought back with us some interesting novels and poetry anthologies to share!
