Our Intermediate A2 Debating Team of Archer Brewer, Yianni Datsopoulos, Mackenzie Holder, and Michael Stevenson, kept their unblemished winning record intact last Sunday when they won their Grand Final against their Prince Alfred College opponents. Arguing the negative to the motion “That we should ban public denial of climate change”, the team’s consistency down the bench, as well as their ability to both effectively challenge key aspects of the Prince’s case, as well as build both a principled and highly effective case of their own, ensured their overall win. Archer Brewer was awarded the Simon Slade Memorial Medal for the overall best speaker in the debate. The team is to be congratulated on their outstanding year, finishing the season undefeated throughout five minor rounds and three finals. I also extend my congratulations to old scholar Evelyn Vincin-Walker (Class of 2021) who coached the team this year. Her expertise as one of the two State Debating Coaches ensured the team was able to gain insight and skills that held them in good stead across the year.
