On Monday 15 August the STIGIT team attended their very first Robocup Jr Tournament. The event was held at St Peters College, and we had three teams registered to compete. The teams spent the majority of the first semester building, coding and refining their robots ready to compete.

On the day the students were put into groups of seven teams and played their group stage matches. Each match consists of three rounds where the objective is to push the opponent’s robot out of the circle within a time limit of three minutes. A Year 4 team consisting of Aaron Hou and Benjamin Hoang, won all seven of their group stage matches and were through to a semi-final. In the semi-final the boys faced a team from Trinity College that were in Year 8. With a close battle the boys unfortunately went down 2-1 and went onto play off in a bronze medal match. Just falling short the boys finished in a valiant 4th place out of a total of 35 teams.

The tournament was a great success and one the college takes pride in for our first attempt. The students are back to the drawing board and working hard in preparing for next year with a wealth of knowledge under their belt.
