State Track and Field Championships 18-20 February 2022

Four Ignatius athletes named as Track and Field State Champions

After training through the summer holidays, a number of Ignatian athletes took to the track over the weekend to compete in the annual State Athletics Championships.

The standard of competition at this meet is exceptional and this year, the Ignatius athletes performed brilliantly across the three days. Sabina Di Iulio showed great concentration to win the U14 javelin competition with a 5 metre personal best throw. Eva Di Iulio has been working on her 400m hurdles event throughout the season and she ran strongly to take home the gold medal in the U17 category and the bronze medal in the 100m hurdles. Ella Sloan’s performance peaked at the right time which allowed her to win the gold medal and be named State Champion for the second year in a row in the high jump. Lily Whiteman competed in the long jump and triple jump over the weekend, winning the silver in the U14 triple jump with a performance of 9.52m. Chloe Whiteman was superb on the track setting a personal best time for both the 400m and the 200m in the U15 category. Tehan Arachchi Appuhamilage Don had a busy weekend competing in the 100m, 200m, triple jump and long jump. He made the final in the U15 100m race and jumped superbly in the U15 long jump. Tom Kavanagh took to the track for the 800m and the 1500m in the very competitive U17 age group, winning a silver medal in the 1500m event with a time of 4min25sec. Tiana Cetta showed huge improvement in her speed surges in her distance races, winning the gold medal in the U18 800m and a silver medal in the U18 1500m.

Congratulations to all students.
