The Rostrum Voice of Youth is an annual, national public speaking competition that encourages young speakers to develop their confidence and speech performance capabilities by delivering prepared and short notice speeches. I am happy to share that Gabrielle Elias, in Year 9, has represented South Australia in the National Final, conducted in Sydney on Saturday 30 July.

Along with over 150 students from South Australia and the Northern Territory who entered the competition in May, Gabrielle won her initial heat, and then her semi final heat, to compete as one of only four Junior speakers in the State, in the Zone Final. This was held at Parliament House, on the evening of Saturday, 25 June. In public speaking, this is a most prestigious event, where the standard of speaking among the eight finalists is extraordinarily high.

Speaking with poise, passion and grace, Gabrielle won the State Final and has also placed runner-up in the National Final. While Gabrielle is the fourth Ignatian student to make it to the Rostrum State Final, which is a phenomenal feat, she is only the second of our speakers to win the title, allowing her to then compete on the national stage.

We are very proud of her achievements, and look forward to recognising her successes soon.
