Ignatius had a strong presence at the 2022 Lumary City-Bay Fun Run on Sunday 18th September. Old Ignatian, Joseph Mercorella (Class of 2001) as co-founder and CEO of Lumary supported the event getting off the ground after a few years’ cancellation due to COVID, as the naming rights sponsor. A number of our students had the opportunity to complete some community service by being involved with the event also. Thirty Year 11s worked at the finish line, assisting with event signage and keeping the Gatorade drinks flowing for the runners. Twenty Year 9 and 10 students volunteered their time at the 3km start line. These students erected blow up arches, handled participant luggage, handed out water to the runners and walkers and gave plenty of encouragement to all participants. All of our student volunteers were praised by the organisers for their genuinely positive interaction with members of the public and other volunteers.

There were a number of Ignatian students who also took part in the event. Of note was the achievement of Tiana Cetta, Year 12, who competed in her first half marathon. She placed second in the Open field to Olympic Athlete, Isabel Batt-Doyle by only 10 minutes. Tiana ran the course in 85 minutes which is an outstanding time. Tiana was greeted at the finish line by our Ignatian Year 11 volunteers and then she took to the presentation stage to be given her trophy and prize cheque by Premier Peter Malinauskas. Well done to all Ignatian runners and old scholar runners who were spotted racing down Anzac Highway on the weekend.
