On the 2nd of July St Aloysius College, Xavier College and Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview arrived to begin the much-awaited Jesuit Soccer Carnival. The carnival began with a short school tour followed by an official carnival photo, opening mass and team dinner.

The next day saw the competition begin, our first match-up was Saint Ignatius College, Riverview which saw us take a convincing 6-0 win, thanks to a hat-trick from Mattias. After lunch break, we had our second game for the day against St Aloysius College, unfortunately despite our best efforts we fell short with a 0-3 loss.

The following day began with the third game for the carnival against a strong Xavier College resulting in a tough fought match. A beautiful curling strike from set piece specialist, Liam D’Aloia secured a well-deserved 1-0 win putting us into the Grand Final! After a second game in the mid-morning between St Aloysius College and Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview and a lunch break the schools joined together for a fun bowling afternoon.

On the final day the boys were matched up in the final against a strong St Aloysius College, some excellent work from the boys and two fantastic goals from Mattias De Sciscio and Emerson Barone saw us claim the overall Jesuit Soccer Carnival for the first time in twenty-two years!!

A big congratulations to the boys and all involved. The standard of soccer was impressive to watch, and the boys should be very proud of their efforts and for their positive sportsmanship throughout the carnival.

Thank you to Angelo Picca, Con Kapnistis, and Rocco D’Onofrio who assisted with coaching and preparation for the carnival.
