Homepage News/Calendar The Ignatian Newsletter Ignatian Team Shines in Ekiden Relay Article information Time 25 Oct 2023 An excited group of Ignatian runners arrived at Bonython Park to contest the Ekiden Relay on Thursday 19th October. It was wonderful to see the flexibility of our running squad as there were last minute team changes to accommodate and this meant that we managed to maintain our four entered teams. At the end of the competition, we had achieved the best results we had had for a number of years. Many runners set personal best times in the hot conditions and no runners got lost on the course – which was a great result. Congratulations to Tom Kavanagh and Josh Kavanagh who both recorded the fastest times out of all the schools on their 5.4km course. Hannah McBain and Nikolay Parashkevov flew around the 1km loop to also record the fastest times in their categories out of all schools. Alex Kavanagh excelled at the 2.8km course and he was the fastest boy across all schools for his leg. In terms of overall results, our mixed junior team were the only team in their unofficial category and they finished with a time of 1hr 38 minutes. Our Open Girls team placed 3rd out of 9 teams in a time of 1hr 33 minutes. The Ignatian Junior Boys team finished 2nd from 14 teams in a time of 1hr 20 minutes and the Senior Boys team also finished 2nd in an impressive time of 1hr 12 minutes. Thank you to Mr Pertl for his expert assistance and to Ms Slade for her help. Also particular thanks to Allegra Greene, Ella Verrilli and Gigi Osborn who acted as recorders, team managers and photographers and we could not have done without them on the day.
