House Spirit: Kostka

It was third time lucky for our House Swimming Carnival with the sun shining brightly for our swimmers. The Year 12s and House Representatives arrived early at Norwood Swimming Centre and were very busy setting up their tents to reflect their house themes. The pool was brought to life with Xavier’s camp fire, Kostka made everyone feel at home with their hearts of gold theme. Campion Champions were looking to stop Xavier’s run of five consecutive swimming carnival shields, while the Regis responders made sure we were all keep safe throughout the day.

It was pleasing to see so many students willing to test their boundaries by involving themselves in the more difficult 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly events. It was obvious from early in the day that the House with the best involvement was going to come out on top, as there were excellent swimmers across all four Houses.

There was plenty of enthusiasm and energy shown by the students who participated in events to gain points for their House. The 50m freestyle was again very popular as was the 25m Walk/Run, with students flocking to the pool to have fun and race their friends.

Congratulations to the following students who were recognised at the end of the carnival as Age Champions for their year levels:

Year 7 Girls Ella Ma (Kostka)
Year 7 Boys Joseph Mazur (Xavier)
Year 8 Girls Emilie Spandler (Xavier)
Year 8 Boys Jackson Chen (Xavier)
Year 9 Girls Juliet Mazur (Xavier)
Year 9 Boys Alex Kavanagh (Campion)
Year 10 Girls Chloe Healy (Campion)
Year 10 Boys Oscar Cohen (Xavier)
Year 11 Girls Sophie Polyak (Kostka)
Year 11 Boys Jonathan Nguyen (Xavier)
Year 12 Girls Sophie Healy (Campion)
Year 12 Boys Alex Dry (Kostka)

The novelty pool area was the highlight for many students. The spirit shown around the pool and volleyball game was spectacular, with the students from all Houses celebrating like they had won the World Cup.

As is our tradition, at the end of the day, one student from each House is recognised with a House Spirit medal. This medal recognises the student’s significant input into the House efforts for the carnival. With the split carnival, we awarded winners from each House in both Middle and Senior Years. Congratulations to the following students who were recognised this year:

Campion – Lily Whiteman
Kostka – Sabina Strojek
Regis – Khyara Brine
Xavier – Stefania Musolino

Campion – Ethan Wright
Kostka – Ella Ainscough
Regis – Alex Holt
Xavier – Max Alfred

The House Swimming Carnival is a wonderful College event that allows our best swimmers to showcase their talents and for all students to contribute to their House. It is always wonderful to watch the joy that students experience as they spend time with their friends and involve themselves in the events on offer. Xavier was awarded the House Swimming Shield for the sixth year in a row. Kostka won the House Spirit cup, as their middle and seniors years students showed constant support and encouragement throughout the day. The highlight of the carnival was without doubt the positive involvement of all the Year 12 students.
