I hope the first weeks of Term 4 went well for you.

Our Year 12s have their Valete tonight. It is one of several farewells, signifying the transition at this educational home to their adult life. It is an occasion not just to bid goodbye, but also to acknowledge the love and mission that have been integral to their time with us. We hope their families and our staff have developed their minds, hearts, spirit, and imagination, and they go forth with a profound sense of purpose and a clear vision of who they are becoming.

We received some news recently from the Jesuit Provincial and Jesuit Education Australia (JEA) concerning Barbara Watkins’ continuing involvement with the Jesuits and our educational ministry next year. Barbara has generously agreed to be the Executive Director of JEA and will commence in this role in February 2024. We are delighted with the news that Barbara will take on this service and that this will enable her association with our College to continue.

After 17 years of extraordinary service, Director of Junior Primary, Lisa Sexton will take on a new role in 2024. Loreto College has recently appointed her as the Head of Junior School. This is a great recognition of her talent and generosity. We are immensely grateful for Lisa’s unwavering dedication to Saint Ignatius' College during her time with us, and we extend our support as she embarks on her future endeavours.

We enjoyed the Junior School’s musical performance of Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies last Saturday. It was a fun-filled performance showcasing budding talent. On Wednesday evening at the Senior School, co-curricular arts and activities awards were presented prior to an impressive Night at the Theatre Senior Years concert. Congratulations also to our Intermediate A Debating team in winning the grand final trophy last weekend.

This week I have been part of the team involved with the Ethos and Identity Review at Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview. I worked on this with Bill Doherty, Principal of Xavier College, and Jennie Hickey, Acting Executive Director of JEA. It has been very encouraging to learn of all the initiatives at Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview, to enhance their identity as a Catholic community especially in faith formation, respectful culture, service learning, and social justice.

This weekend we hope to see many at College reunions on Saturday and the P&F Colour Run on Sunday. Next Friday is College Speech Day at Futures Church.

OREMUS (Let us pray)

We remember all in our College community. May our prayers comfort those suffering at this time. May God’s blessing be a source of support in their sorrow and loss, and bring courage, patience, and hope.

“Ask and you shall receive … knock and the door will be opened unto you.” (Matt 7:7)

If you would like someone to be remembered by the College community in prayer (even anonymously), please provide details to the Rector, class or Mentor Teacher, or House Leader.
