Homepage News/Calendar The Ignatian Newsletter From the Head of Senior School Article information Time 3 Feb 2023 As we complete week 2, we hope students and families, and in particular those new to our community, are settling into the College year. It’s always a joy to assist the new Year 7 students as they embark on the challenge of navigating timetables and finding classrooms for lessons with their subject teachers. Mentor Teachers are accompanying well the students in their care and introduced them to the spirit of the Houses and patron saints. Our House Swimming Carnival today was full of generous participation and much fun. We are grateful for the commitment and perseverance of our students and staff. Our new House-based pastoral care structure is designed to know, love, and affirm students in our care better. As educators and parents, we work in partnership to support our students on their journey of becoming men and women for others. The House gatherings in the coming weeks are an opportunity to reaffirm this. Thank you for the ways students and caregivers engaged with Mentor Teachers either in person or online. The Mentor Teacher conversations via MS Teams occur at the start of each semester to enable Mentor Teachers to meet families and students in their care and together plan goals for the semester. At our first Senior School Assembly, led by our College Senior Leaders, we heard from the 2022 Duces, Jasmin Wu and Zachary Anderson. They gave invaluable advice to our students about organisation skills, finding a healthy balance amidst the demands of schoolwork, and engaging fully in co-curricular and faith and service activities. Miss Tremonte as Director of Faith Formation and Mr O’Brien as Director of Mission spoke of opportunities for students especially with immersions, Kairos retreats, community service, and liturgies. Over the break Mr Neville Turnbull and the maintenance team worked hard to ensure our campus was ready for the year ahead. In recent weeks, the builders completed the demolition of the old Kostka Art Centre, and the excavation has started in preparation for the construction of a new art, design, and technology centre. This is due to be completed during Term 4. Mr Phil DonatoHead of Senior School Previous From the Head of Co-curricular Next Upcoming Dates - Senior School
