As the Year 12 exams finish, the Year 11 students are taking up the responsibilities of being Senior Leaders, especially in the way they care for younger students. College Captains, Eve Corso and Emmanuel Goh, as well as the House Captains and Co-curricular, Faith & Service, and Senior Leaders, and the whole Year 12 Class of 2023, will lead the College community with dedication and enthusiasm. This is their time to leave their mark and make a difference for the good.

This week we welcomed three staff and two students from St Francis Xavier Catholic School in the beautiful Nauiyu, located on the banks of the Daly River in the Northern Territory. Mr Chris Toome, a member of the Athelstone staff, is currently working in the community and came with them. Hopefully we can build on this experience and build closer connections with the community where we have an annual Jarrumwani Immersion. Despite the vicissitudes of the Adelaide weather, the students enjoyed living a week in the life of an Ignatian student. We are grateful for the work of Mr Chris Toome, Ms Victoria Coxhill, Mr Shane O’Brien, and all the staff who supported this amazing exchange.

On Wednesday we enjoyed a Transition Day for the new Year 7 students joining the senior campus next year. The students enjoyed many orientation activities, a tour with current Year 7s, House liturgies, and other activities led by House Leaders Ms Davey, Ms Doyle, Mr Grundy, and Mr Mullins. That same evening, we hosted the New Parent Welcome Evening in the Campion Library to welcome families to our community and to provide information about next year. We thank Ms Miriam Doyle and the Middle Years House Leaders and staff who supported this wonderful day.

On Wednesday night, our Year 11 Drama class presented their interpretation of Alice, a contemporary interpretation of Carroll’s classic work Alice, Through the Looking Glass. The story was immersed into parallel surreal worlds, where Alice tries to come to terms with where she is, the nonsensical world of wonderland, and all the characters within it. We are grateful to Mrs Karen Sheldon and all the staff who support our Drama program.

We celebrated PE Week this week. The HPE staff ran a variety of activities at lunchtime. These included a variety of staff and student events, an AFL 9s game (a non-contact version of Australian rules football) on the Bourke Oval between staff and Year 10s, a lunchtime walking group, dancing in the Quad! (line dances such as the Nutbush and the Cupid shuffle), and lawn games on the Bellarmine Lawns including Finska and bocce.
