Gifted and Talented Awareness Week involved Year 7 and 9 students in the Da Vinci Decathlon. A team of 10 competed against 25 other schools and won the silver medal in the Senior Ethics Olympiad. The students have qualified for the national competition later in the year. We are grateful to Mrs Kathryn Wills for supporting their efforts.

Our aerobics teams had an impressive week, winning four gold medals in their recent competition. Their dedication to training, support of each other, and enthusiasm on the day were very evident.

Several staff and students attended the funeral service for Simon Baccanello yesterday at St Ignatius Parish Church. Simon was tragically killed in a shark attack at Elliston recently. Simon was an Old Ignatian from the Class of 1994. He was Music Captain, Drive tennis player, First XVIII footballer, and a Senior Leader. He was awarded the Grummit scholarship, which took him overseas in 1995. His brother Paul (OI ’96) helps with tennis coaching at the College, and his sister Lydia is a teacher at Loreto College.

This weekend, the Church celebrates Pentecost. The Christian holy day of Pentecost, which is celebrated on the eighth Sunday after Easter, commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem celebrating the Feast of Weeks. In Christian tradition, this event represents the birth of the early Church.
