I join with staff at the Senior School to welcome you all to Term 2. After the challenges that the increase in Omicron cases and contacts caused in Term 1, we look forward to resetting in Term 2.

Our Learning Management System, SEQTA, enables subject teachers to provide continuous feedback through online reporting to students and parents at key periods throughout the term. As we transition to Continuous Reporting, we hope this can improve learning progress by communicating the growth a student makes in skills, knowledge, and understanding. As teachers improve their skills with SEQTA, this should be more informative for parents and caregivers than the summary comments previously offered in end-of-term reports.

We encourage conversations with subject teachers to occur at any time when deemed most appropriate. This can be done via e-mail or phone, or in person by appointment. We will also provide an opportunity for Subject Conversations at a scheduled time to discuss learning progress. We do not expect parents to speak with all subject teachers, but encourage you to prioritise conversations for two or three subjects.

The Years 7 to 11 Subject Conversations will take place via Teams on Thursday 12 May and Monday 16 May. We will seek your feedback on this approach in order to refine our systems. Following last term’s Stage 2 Subject Conversations, we are grateful for the survey responses from parents.

Staff from our three campuses – Ignatius Early Years, Junior School, and Senior School – came together on Monday this week for a day of Ignatian Formation at the senior campus. We heard from Dr Maeve Louise Heaney, a theologian from the Australian Catholic University. Maeve Louise spoke to us on Catholic identity today, and we reflected on what it means, the challenges, and our responsibilities. We were blessed with the opportunity to deepen our understanding of our Ignatian spirituality. We are grateful for the work of our Faith and Service Team and, in particular, Mrs Jacquie McCabe and Fr Eka Tanaya to arrange this day for our staff.

Next week we launch our Winter Appeal, which is led by Campion House in Term 2. This will raise awareness for those who are homeless in our community and collect clothing and toiletries for Catherine House, the St Vincent De Paul Society, and the Moore Street Adelaide Day Centre.
