From the Head of Senior School

Last weekend our rowing crews participated in the annual Head of the River regatta, held at West Lakes. Our small contingent of rowers all achieved personal best times and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of rowing in this special event. We also enjoyed a wonderful dinner celebration, where each crew thanked their coach. We are especially grateful for the work of Ms Holly Peters as she retires after five years in the role of Teacher-in-Charge of Rowing.

On Friday our Year 10 students had their Day of Reflection, also known as the Year 10 Historical Journey to Sevenhill. This is a wonderful opportunity for our Year 10 students to engage with the spirituality centre and history of the Jesuits in Australia.

At this week’s Senior School Assembly, Father Hosking reminded us of the journey of the first two Jesuits from Austria who began the Jesuit mission to Australia 175 years ago at Sevenhill. For those who visit Clare Valley, I recommend the Walking Tour of Historic Sevenhill as a great way to experience the initial home of the Jesuits in Australia begun in 1848. The tour includes the beautiful St Aloysius’ Church, the recently refurbished Weikert Cottage, and of course the Sevenhill Cellars, which is the oldest winery in the valley.

An Ignatian education is dedicated to the formation of students who are “leaders in service, in imitation of Christ Jesus, men and women of competence, conscience and compassionate commitment.” (33^rd General Congregation of the Society of Jesus, 1983, n 13) Together we aim to instil in our students a strong sense of kindness and selflessness. We believe that small acts of kindness and compassion can make a huge positive difference for others.

At the end of next week, the Family Fun Fair will be held on 1 April. Come along with your family and friends to enjoy delicious food, fun-filled rides, musical entertainment, and market stalls.
