After a relaxing few days to celebrate Easter, we have completed the last week of Term 1. In addition to the usual activities, we had the House Soccer Tournament. Our Year 7s had a Challenge Day involving tree climbs, virtual realities, or escape rooms, with Year 11s offering peer support. The Year 10s had a Work Health and Safety Training Day. The Stage 1 Nutrition students had an excursion to the Central Market and UniSA. And we finished with our end-of-term dismissal services in House groups.

During the holidays, a group of our Year 11s and 12s will participate in Kairos #90 at Nunyara Conference Centre. The Kairos experience offers an encounter with faith and friendship that many remember for life.

Eighteen Year 10 students and five staff will take part in the Jarrumwani immersion with Tiwi people. They will spend time learning and serving in the community. They will visit the Tiwi Museum and experience presentations from Tiwi Elders and Sr Anne Gardiner. They’ll get to know students in the school and participate in the bush camp. This includes fishing; collecting turtle eggs, oysters, and mussels; and making damper and bush tea. They will be taught traditional methods of spear making and learn a Tiwi dance. We are grateful to Mr Chris Toome, Mr James Lodge, and other staff for their work in leading these important learning experiences for our students, which we call a ‘journey of the heart’.

My sincere thanks go to all who have assisted in the various activities of Term 1. On behalf of our staff, we hope the holiday break is a re-creating and enjoyable one for our students and families.
