Welcome back to all our families and students to Term 2. I hope that everyone managed to enjoy their Easter break and some rich time spent together with family. It is great to see everyone back well rejuvenated. With the Junior School Music Camp and the Year 1 excursions to the Marine Discovery Centre held in week 1, we are assured of a term ahead filled with rich learning experiences.

From our first day back, the children have been enjoying the additional space of the newly refurbished tennis/netball/basketball courts for their recreational use and sports training. Nothing gives us greater pleasure than seeing the Tappeiner Gymnasium and Miguel Pro Auditorium fully utilised for co-curricular before- and after-school activities. It is great to see the enjoyment of the children in these newly created spaces.

As a reminder to all parents, the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be undertaken by all Year 3 and 5 students from Tuesday 10 to Thursday 12 May next week, as per the timetable shared in recent communications. We ask that you please avoid appointments for your children on these days for this important undertaking in seeing where your child’s learning is, at this point in time.

To celebrate all mothers, grandmothers, and special women in our lives, we welcome you to our annual Mother’s Day morning tea on Monday 9 May. Biscuits, tea, and coffee will be available from the Holy Family Piazza from 7.45 am before our Reception to Year 3 liturgy commences at 9 am in the St Ignatius Parish Church.

There are many ways to God aside from prayer, and our Ignatian spirituality teaches us that we can find God in all things. Fr Peter Knott SJ describes how a deeper appreciation of music, art, and poetry can also awaken us to the mystery of God’s presence in the world around us. As a college that champions the holistic formation, I leave you with some images of the Junior School Music Camp, which children have enjoyed over the past two days at school. On seeing all the palpable energy from each of the ensembles, I cannot help but think of the quote attributed to St Irenaeus in that ‘the glory of God can be found in man or woman fully alive’.
