The Faith and Service team at Athelstone are in the process of moving into their new hub. This space allows for greater liaison between staff and a place for students to pop in. Ignatian Ethos is at the heart of all we do here at the College, so it is appropriate that the team is situated in the under-croft area, a central place at the Senior School.

Unfortunately, CoViD restrictions and our staggered start means we have not been able to celebrate our Mass of the Holy Spirit as we usually do. The Mass of the Holy Spirit is a tradition of Jesuit academic institutions worldwide, dating back to 1548 the community gathers to thank God for the gifts of creation and salvation and to seek the guidance and wisdom of the Holy Spirit in the coming year. We are fortunate to be able to utilise technology to assist us in gathering so staff and students at our Athelstone campus were able to participate in an online liturgy. Although this does not replace the Mass it affords us the opportunity to give thanks and petition for the graces we seek to help us through the coming year. I am grateful to Danika Tremonte and Fr Eka Tanaya SJ for their work in preparing the liturgy.

Liturgical events will commence at our Norwood campus in Week 5 as we begin the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday.

In this week’s Ignatian you will find some information for anyone who may be interested in learning more about the Catholic faith or about receiving the sacraments. Please feel welcome to get in touch if you have any questions or interest in being involved.

Yours in peace,

Mrs Jacquie McCabe
Head of Ignatian Ethos
