Homepage News/Calendar The Ignatian Newsletter From the Head of Co-Curricular Article information Time 9 Aug 2023 Get to know the Co-curricular Team - Coordinator Spotlight Aaron Dohse’s role in the College is Senior School Arts and Activities Coordinator and Teacher in Charge of Senior School Music, in addition to instrumental music tuition and conducting of numerous ensembles. Having been appointed to the role of Arts and Activities Coordinator in 2020, Senior School Co-curricular has greatly benefited from his leadership in promoting and furthering the opportunities and community for students in Arts and Activities. Here you can learn a little more about Aaron, in this Co-curricular Coordinator Spotlight. A brief introduction to Aaron: I am an Adelaide Crows and West Adelaide supporter and I very much enjoy most sport. I also love all things Arts & Activities, in particular musicals and Fringe/Festival time. I have a particular passion for ensemble and instrumental music and the cognitive development that comes with it. What do you like most about being involved in Co-curricular at SIC? I really like the diversity of what is on offer. There is an opportunity for students to discover something new, find a new passion, discover a new talent but also a chance to refine talents, knowledge and skills and present them to a very high level. Share one highlight from your involvement in Co-curricular. There have been many including a variety of tours, performances, competitions etc. But in 2011 we celebrated the 60th anniversary of the College with a huge performance at the Adelaide Festival Centre. This performance involved vast numbers of Junior and Senior School students as well as staff and old scholars. The performances were all incredibly visual and everyone rose to the occasion to perform. We had large, combined ensembles and choirs, dancers and a great presentation of the highlights of some of the musicals the College had produced. It was a mammoth undertaking but to be able to perform in that way on the stage of the Festival Theatre to a packed-out audience was amazing. What is one aim you have for improving Co-curricular over the next 12 months? There is a lot happening behind the scenes that is going to help improve the Co-curricular experience for everyone. I’m very excited for where it is heading. The roll out of Program Leaders over the next few years is going to be a big change that will allow each program to shine in its own right. My aim is that Co-curricular is a great experience for everyone who is involved and that it forms some of everyone’s favourite memories from their time at the College. If you could pick any major event in the world (Arts and Activities or Sport related) to attend, what would it be? This is a tricky question because I have so many. If the Olympics and the Eurovision Song Contest and the Edinburgh Fringe all combined into one giant event, then that is where I want to go!
