Work Experience

Year 10 – Diary Dates! Tuesday, 27 June - Thursday, 29 June 2023

The College’s Work Experience Program will occur with the Year 10's in the last week of Term 2 from Tuesday, 27 June to Thursday, 29 June 2023. Parents and Students received an Edsmart last year outlining the processes and guidelines for Work Experience. Work Experience is a vital component of the College’s Careers Program for a variety of reasons providing opportunities for students to develop employability skills related to enterprise, encourages students to develop industry-related competencies and enables students to explore potential career choices and pathways.

Year 10 students should now be actively looking for Work Experience placements. Start asking your friends, sports contacts, neighbours… even cold-calling businesses!

Work Experience for students in Years 11 and 12
For students in other year levels, don't forget to adjust the dates on the Learning Agreement Form.
You must also see Mrs McDonald to complete a WHS "refresher" on Career Tools and attach it to your forms prior to completing your placement. Please allow 3 days to process the forms and complete a Risk assessment.

Please email Lisa McDonald for all forms and guidelines for Work Experience at l.mcdonald@ignatius.sa.edu.au

Temperate Marine Biology presented by the University of Tasmania

The University of Tasmania is once again proud to present Year 11 and 12 students with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience a week as a marine biologist. This is our 2023 Marine Discovery Competition. In the past, one of our Old Scholars, Mahalia Cronin was lucky enough to win a position at this camp!

A Practical Introduction to Temperate Marine Biology is an introduction to our Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Science degree. Upon completing this course, they will receive credit unit towards their future University of Tasmania degree.

This is a 5-day field trip based on the picturesque Maria Island, on the Tasmanian East Coast. Led by marine ecologist, Dr Scott Bennett, students will be doing field work and experiencing the sights and sounds of climate change, invasive species, pollution, debris, and the associated economic and social impacts.

To enter, the students are to complete an online application and submit their 300-word pitch on the topic: why I wish to study the marine biology of Maria Island.

Applications will close at Midnight (AEST) on Monday, 20 February 2023.

There are 24 places available, 14 of which are scholarships places. Scholarships will cover flights, accommodation, catering, local transport costs, equipment hire, tuition costs and survey gear.
