On Monday I presented to the cohort about the mechanics of making an application. Who is SATAC, how does the process work, key dates, how to respond to an offer and how to structure your preferences. Jon Auccone from Flinders presented a very similar session aimed at parents on Tuesday evening. If you were unable to attend, please email me for a PDF of the slides. Students have been sent the PowerPoint slides and have all received the SATAC guide and materials from the universities to assist their decision making. If your son / daughter was absent please tell them to pop into the Careers Office to get their “SATAC showbag”. SATAC Dates 2024 September 29 applications close to avoid a late fee. Medicine (and other courses with hard deadlines) closes.Dec 1 Equal Consideration cutoffJan 3 2024 Change Of Preference cut offJan 11 2024 Main OfferJan 24 2024 2nd offer Plan B for Medicine and Flinders 1:1 Preference planning On Wednesday Jon from Flinders returned and guided students through a “Plan B for Medicine” session at lunchtime to assist students in making sure they have all their bases covered. He was also available for students to book a 1:1 to assist planning their preference orders. UniSA 1:1 Preference planning Finally, on Thursday Lauren from UniSA also held 1:1 preference planning sessions, to ensure the best chance of success in gaining an offer in their desired courses at UniSA. This was a follow up session from Hannah Holton’s initial presentation which outlined all the new courses at UniSA for 2024. Upcoming events celebrating National Skills week 2023 / VET 2024 Next week we are celebrating National Skills Week for the first time at Saint Ignatius’ College! This week is all about celebrating all things VET and Vocational Learning. We have some exciting events planned. Tuesday: Spotlight on Hospitality. Come and see a lunchtime cooking demonstration with the Adelaide Institute of Hospitality. Bhu from AIOH will show students how to make a delicious risotto and / or pasta dish. Bhu will also talk about the great careers in Hospitality which is an area of forecast growth in employment. This is a great way to see if you are interested in our brand new Certificate III in Hospitality which we are launching with Year 11’s in 2024. Meet outside the Flynn Theatre. Wednesday: Careers in Construction Management / Tour of new building site SARAH will take time out from their busy day to present to students of all year levels about the many and varied careers in Construction Management. The presentation is open to all students, however, the site tour is strictly capped at 15. I strongly urge all potential Construction Managers to attend! CA203. Thursday: Born to Build / Eloise Fry women in trades Ryan Palmer from Born to Build and Old scholar Eloise Fry will speak to all Year Elevens about Trades in construction and with a special focus on diversity and breaking down of stereotypes in trades. Bellarmine Room, Period 3. VET in Schools programs 2024 Applications are now open for a variety of VET courses around Adelaide. For more information on VET at saint Ignatius’ go to SEQTA> Career Tools> VET. Internal VET at Saint Ignatius’ College 2024 Certificate III Hospitality In 2024 we’re very excited to announce a new VET option. The College will be offering a cert II in Cookery and Cert III in Hospitality. These courses must be completed together. They will be delivered by the Adelaide Institute of Hospitality in the Dennett Centre Kitchen. This is a nationally recognised qualification under ASQA. The cost will be subsidised by the College and will be $600. Please note a compulsory work placement is a requirement of this course. We will also continue to offer the Certificate III in Screen and Media. External VET Here is a small selection of VET courses available externally to students.
