Special Guests from Bond University and Newman College

This week we were lucky enough to have two guest speakers fly in from interstate to speak to our students at the College, Mr Jot Loh from Bond University and Ms Victoria Howard from Newman College, University of Melbourne. Jot explained the different approaches to university life at Bond University and the programs and scholarships available. Victoria was on hand to personally discuss 1:1 with students how to apply to Newman and describe life in a residential college.

Apprenticeships and Traineeships
Remember that your ATAR isn’t everything! If your ATAR isn’t quite enough to get into your dream course, this doesn’t mean you have to give up. There are lots of pathways such as UniSA College, Foundation Studies and Diploma courses that you can take to reach your goals.

You might even like to consider a pathway that doesn’t require an ATAR, like studying a at TAFE, doing a traineeship or an apprenticeship. If you would like to pursue a trade please book an appointment with me as soon as possible!

Try-a-trade with APA Group
Women in Welding

Not too sure what to do after school? Not excited about going to Uni? Like the idea of doing something manual for a job? Welding and fabrication is one of those career paths that are not really considered unless you know someone who already does it. And generally it has always been the men who do this type of work, and the boys who choose to follow their footsteps. We’d like to help change that. APA would love more females to consider welding and fabrication as a career path, and we’d like to invite females to come in and learn in a safe space, what this job actually looks like.

We'd love to see you at our site! Contact Program Coordinator, Katie Tunnah, to register interest. Positions are very limited!

Date: Wednesday, August 24

Duration: 2 hours (time TBC - please specify if there is a preferred time of day)

Location: APA Group | 330 Grange Road, Kidman Park, SA 5025

Any students who are considering doing any funded VET courses in 2023 should speak to me as soon as possible to ensure that their VETRO (VET readiness) application is completed correctly.

TAFE has not finalised courses / locations as yet but students can submit an expression of interest in the following courses at Grand Junction Trade Training Centre (location : St Paul’s College)

Whilst GJTTC planning is not completed they are looking to offer the following courses:

  • Certificate II in Construction Pathways (Flexible Industry Pathways course)

  • Advanced Carpentry Skills Course (Year 12 – Stackable VET Program *)

* Please note, these Stackable VET Programs receive funding support from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and whilst we anticipate this support continuing in 2023 the CITB are not yet in a position to formally approve this. Both courses require a minimum of 12 students before they can proceed.

Please email Mrs McDonald for an Expression of Interest Form. Please note to apply and receive funding from CITB students should show an awareness of the industry either through a work placement or a Try a Trade course at Year 10 / VET / work experience at Year 11.
