On Tuesday, Metropolitan Firefighter, Gen Rueger, visited our Year 5 students to chat to them about her job and shared with them her inspirational stories about fighting the bushfires on Kangaroo Island.

Gen talked to the students about how we are seeing more extreme weather events as a result of climate change and how strong winds, extreme heat and prolonged drought is increasing the events of bushfires.

Together the students discussed what they could do as individuals to help slow down climate change. Suggestions included: using less electricity, riding a bike to school or catching the bus.

The students were especially excited when asked to time Gen on how quickly she could get her firefighting garments on.
