Last week the year 10 Biology class were given the opportunity to behave like a flock of birds in an activity designed to model Natural Selection. Using a variety of ‘bird beaks’, students raced each other to compete for food resources in their habitat. This allowed them to experience first-hand that birds with beaks better suited to collecting available food resources will allow them to survive longer and produce more offspring. Needless to say, the students enjoyed the activity.
