The competition is always tough in this event with Mercedes College being our main rival. The conditions made for close competition in the age groups and at the end of the day the U13 group came second by 6 points, and the U16 group were second by 13 points. The U14 group won their division by narrowest of margins – 1 point to Mercedes. There were a number of strong performances by our seasoned athletes including Tom Kavanagh winning the 3000m and the 1500m; Ella Sloa, Leo Thomson and Nick Miller winning their High Jumps; Isabelle Cherry winning her Javelin, Shot Put and Triple Jump; Lily Whiteman winning her 100m, Triple Jump and Long Jump; Jack Pontt winning the Javelin; Nikolay Parashkevov winning his Triple Jump; Eva Di Iulio winning her Triple Jump; Lola Whiteman winning her Long Jump and Hannah McBain winning the 100m and Long Jump. After competing earlier in the week it was challenging for the athletes to back up for another competition, but all athletes worked hard to produce some excellent results. Isabelle Cherry had another strong competition winning the U13 High Jump, Shot Put and Discus. Lily Whiteman was impressive coming first in the 90m Hurdles, Triple Jump and Long Jump. Eva Di Iulio asserted her dominance winning the 100m Hurdles, Long Jump and 400m. We also had a number of individual event winners including Ella Valana (3000m), Montana Marranya (Javelin), Emilie Spandler (800m), Ella Sloan (High Jump), Sabina Di Iulio (Javelin), Aislynn Lobo (Javelin) and Heidi Yang (Triple Jump). The spirit amongst the team at this event was most impressive. The stadium gave the girls the opportunity to get close to the competing athletes and give their support. Well done to all those who filled in at the last minute for various events and for those who gave their all after a big week of athletics. Whilst we missed winning the overall shield by the narrowest of margins, it was satisfying to be able to bring home the U13 and Open Age Group shields from the carnival. Thanks to all staff and old scholar coaches involved in coaching athletics this season. Previous Virtual War Memorial Australia Awards Next Care For Country
