A Grade Catholic Girls Athletics - Ignatius overall winners.

On Wednesday 7th September, the Ignatius athletes travelled to Salisbury Athletics Centre to compete in the Catholic Girls’ Athletics Carnival. The competition was held in trying weather conditions; however, all athletes worked together to produce an excellent overall result.

There were many highlights on the day including outstanding jumps performances from Lily Whiteman, Chloe Whiteman and Lily Burgess. Hannah McBain and Eva Di Iulio were incredible leaders in the sprints and for the team in general. Our throwers recorded some pleasing measurements – in particular Isabelle Cherry who was competing against older athletes and produced excellent results. Our distance runners were consistent and led superbly by Tiana Cetta who competed in the 300m, 1500m and 800m races on the day. Special congratulations to Lily Roberts who represented Ignatius in the Steeple Chase in the rain!

A Grade Catholic Co-Education Athletics – Ignatius second overall.

On Monday 12th September, a group of 60 Ignatius athletes combined to compete in the Catholic Co-Educational Carnival. This carnival is always a challenge due to the number of events and competing athletes. It was wonderful to see the squad come away at the end of the day with the U14 Overall shield and placing second in the U13, U15 and U16 age groups. These excellent results allowed us to place second overall to Cabra with Mercedes in third place.

Lily Whiteman had an outstanding carnival, setting a new carnival record in the U13 Long Jump with a distance of 4.49m. Tiana Cetta and Tom Kavanagh ran superbly to win the Open 3000m events. In the throwing events, Remy Black, Alex Martini and Thomas Humphrey won their Javelin competitions. Isabelle Cherry and Thomas Humphrey also won the shot put. Our squad showed huge improvement in the sprints with Alex Martini, Tehan Arachchi Appuhumalage Don, Grace Veremu, Alice Mee and Hannah McBain winning their 100m and Mani Armitage taking out the 200m. Emily Holland ran a great 400m to finish first across the line and Ella Sloan, Lucia Doyle and Alex Kavanagh also took line honours in the 800m events. Jayveer Budwal, Sabina DiIulio, Leo Thomson and Ella Sloan scored us valuable first place points in the High Jump. Eva DiIulio and Atem Ring outjumped their competitors in the long jump and Will O’Callaghan, Lily Burgess and Lily Whiteman all won their Triple Jump events.

Clearly, it was a whole team effort to produce such a strong overall result. Thank you to all athletes who competed in extra events on the day to support the team. There was a lot of raw talent in this athletics squad and hopefully they can continue to refine their talent and contribute to further success for Ignatius Athletics.
