A determined group of athletes took to the Bridgestone Athletics Track for the third time this month to compete in the annual Achilles Cup Athletics Competition.

The B Grade competition was held separately to the A Grade this year which made for a different atmosphere. The day began strongly, with Ignatius recording performances for every hurdles heat available. This allowed us to get a jump on the other teams in the scoring table. We had 4 athletes learn and then compete in the pole vault and these were also valuable first place points that allowed us to move into the middle of the competition in a strong position.

There were many strong performances throughout the day including Tiana Cetta winning Division 2 of the 3000m, Nicholas Jeffreson performing brilliantly in the High Jump, Riley MacDonald giving it his all across a variety of events, Will O’Callaghan moving effortlessly between winning races on the track to competing in the field and Leo Thomson’s incredible ability across throwing, jumping and running events. The U14 Relay was also a highlight with the team winning their race convincingly.

At the end of the day, Saint Ignatius’ College was awarded the B Grade Cup and given the opportunity to be promoted into the A Grade Competition for 2023. Congratulations to all athletes who participated and the coaches who are part of our athletics program.
