Old Ignatians Cricket Club
The Old Ignatians Cricket Club currently has four teams competing in the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association. Two of our sides (A & B Grade) will compete in the A4 & B3 two-day competitions, while our two one-day sides (C & D Grade) will compete in the LOC & LOF one-day competitions this season.
All teams play their home games at the Saint Ignatius’ College Senior School at Athelstone this season. The Club trains Wednesday nights at the St Ignatius’ Junior School in Norwood from 5.30pm.
The Club is engaged in a major sponsorship with the Hackney Hotel, where we congregate on Wednesday nights after training and Saturday nights after matches. Presentations are held every second Saturday following the conclusion of that round’s two-day fixture. The hotel is a great supporter of the club and gives all players and non playing members of the club access to discounts on meals and drinks.
The Club caters for players of all levels of ability and has some 300 players registered with the Club; of those over 100 donned the whites for at least one game with the Club last season. The Club has both an excellent social and family atmosphere, holding a string of social events which cater for all throughout the season.
Club stalwart and proud Old Ignatian Chris Frangos (Class of 1999) will captain the Club for the second year this season and will be greatly supported by two new coaches coming on board. The club’s all-time leading wicket taker - Haydn Smith (Class of 1994) - returns to the club as a specialist bowling coach, while Sam Williams - who has over ten years of A grade district cricket experience - has signed on as the Club’s batting coach. Both coaches are excited and looking forward to working with our players over the season ahead.
The OICC committee and players will be approaching this season ahead with an air of excitement and invite any new players or potential sponsors to feel free to contact the club.
