Fr Davoren Concludes Time at the College
Jun 02, 2017
Fr Brian McCoy SJ, Provincial of the Society of Jesus in Australia, recently wrote to families of the College to inform them of the fact that, after 11 years of great service, Fr Rob Davoren SJ, would conclude his time with us in our community at the end of this year.
Fr Davoren, an old scholar of the College (Class of '70), commenced as Headmaster in 2007 and in 2014 he undertook the dual role as Rector/CEO of the College. During this 11 year period, Jesuit owned colleges in NSW and Victoria have adopted a model of leadership with a Jesuit Rector and a lay Principal.
Saint Ignatius' College in Adelaide, now seeks to replicate this model with a new Rector for 2018 to be appointed by the Provincial in the near future and a search commenced for the first non-Jesuit Principal of the College to start next year also.
We have much to thank Fr Davoren for during his time at the College. He has directed a very significant building program at the College with the construction of the MacKillop Building at Norwood and the Campion, Peter Faber and Caroline Chisholm Buildings at Athelstone all being completed under his stewardship. Four major works like this along with other significant projects like roadworks and new tennis courts is an extraordinary achievement.
Along with this though, the College has prospered under his very inclusive leadership through the strong relationships that continue to be built between our families and the school and through the on-going development of our staff in their Ignatian Formation and encouragement to best practise in all facets of education.
We shall miss him greatly but we wish him well in his new role for the Provincial.
